Education And Professional Development Program
The purpose of the Education and Professional Development Program is to provide effective services and an unparalleled education program to the right of way professionals and the public; and to achieve the objectives and purpose of the IRWA. A series of courses has been designed to provide the tools and resources for continuing professional development and to recognize right of way practitioners who attain the Senior Member, International Right of Way Association (SR/WA) and individual discipline Certification.
Mission of the IPDC
The IPDC is committed to developing a comprehensive education plan that aligns specialized areas in basic disciplines with the broader Right of Way field leading to high standards of competency required in today’s environment.
Mission Statement
The IPDC is charged with oversight of the development and facilitation of a comprehensive curriculum that trains right of way practitioners and maintains high standards of competency through a professional development program. A majority of the members of the IPDC shall be Senior Members of the Association, and a minimum of two (2) members shall hold Association Instructor status. The Chair of the IPDC shall be appointed annually by recommendation of the International President with the advice of the Region Chair and with the approval of the International Executive Committee.
The functions of said Committee shall be as follows:
- Annually update long-range goals and develop short-range goals for improving education and professional development of IRWA.
- Monitor specific educational needs and desires of members and the profession through an ongoing and systematic program of marketing and educational research.
- Based on results from ongoing research, provide input and recommendations to the International Executive Committee and designated Headquarter staff regarding:
- Goals and objectives for the ongoing development of the educational curriculum,
- The need and marketability of new courses as well as the need for course revision,
- selection of individuals to develop and revise courses;
- Approve and monitor courses proposed by outside sources for inclusion in IRWA educational and professional development curricula and seminar series;
- Administer the Association’s Professional Development Program including Certification and the Senior Member SR/WA program through recommendations regarding:
- Goals and objectives for the ongoing program,
- Course requirements that pertain to Certification and the SR/WA Designation,
- Procedures for examinations;
- Ensure the validity and reliability of SR/WA examinations through the:
- Systematic monitoring of statistical "progress reports" provided to the committee by the Director of Education.
- Oversight of the merger and correlation of course and examination content, to be implemented by Headquarters staff;
- Facilitate SR/WA candidates' successful completion of the program by the development and subsequent revision of an SR/WA examination review and study guide.
- Provide input into an ongoing marketing research program concerning the Certification and SR/WA programs.
- Oversee the rules, guidelines and stipulations for SR/WA candidacy, Certification and recertification.
- Monitor the selection and review of all IRWA Instructors.
- In conjunction with Headquarters staff, provide regular, timely and informative reports to the Chapters and members through Association’s Web Site and the Right of Way Magazine.
- Participate in the Annual International Education Conference.
