Mission Statement

The mission of the International Utilities Committee is to provide advice and assistance to the Association on matters related to the acquisition, use, management or disposal of rights of way for the utility industry including but not limited to, gas, electric, power, steam, cable TV, communications, data, water, sewer and drain lines. It shall monitor legislation or changes in legislation, methods or practices pertaining to any matters affecting utility rights of way. It shall cooperate with the International Liaison Committee in all interagency or legislative activities and shall keep other industry committees informed.

The functions of this committee shall be as follows:

  • It shall study and report on concepts, practices, policies and procedures relating to the acquisition, development, management or disposition of rights of way for utilities, whether for public or private use, and for whatever purpose.
  • It shall study and report on general and specific problems relating to the use, or multi-use, of rights of way by public and/or private facilities together with special attention to areas of coordination, cooperation and advanced planning in the effective use of rights of way for utilities.
  • It shall promote and encourage persons, schools and other organizations, to participate with it in research and development of policies and procedures related to interagency cooperation in recognition of the diverse needs of the utilities industry.
  • It shall encourage chapters, acting through chapter utilities committees, to participate with it in its studies and in the performance of functions similar to its own, at the local level.
  • It shall review the work and programs of the chapter utility committee and shall make periodic reports to the International President Elect and the International Executive Vice President on committee activities at the chapter or international levels.
